Mommy Makeovers

Mommy makeovers are cosmetic procedures used to restore a woman’s body to a pre-pregnant state. Childbearing changes a woman’s body and usually, these changes do not get reversed. However, with mommy makeovers, effects of pregnancy and childbirth can be addressed, her pre-baby body restored, and even improved.

What are mommy makeovers?

Mommy makeovers refer to the set of cosmetic procedures performed to correct and reverse the effects of childbearing and aging on a woman’s body and to restore or improve her pre-pregnancy look. These procedures are usually done on the face, breasts, abdomen, and buttocks.

The effects of pregnancy are physical and psychological. Most physical changes are unwanted, long-lasting, and can affect how a woman sees herself. These changes include:

  • Sagging breasts
  • Non-symmetrical breasts
  • Large nipple or areola
  • Excess abdomen fat
  • Loose sagging skin around the abdomen
  • Stretched or separated abdominal muscles

Hence, to address these unwanted changes, you can have a mommy makeover and regain that youthful, beautiful look you desire. What’s more? Your self-confidence and self-esteem. A mommy makeover could be surgical, non-surgical, or a combination of the two and carried out under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation.

Surgical procedures in a mommy makeover

Usually, mommy makeovers involve one or more surgical procedures and they are mostly done during a single operation. This allows the patient to have just one surgery and one recovery period for multiple corrections. Examples of these surgical procedures are:

  • Liposuction
  • Breast augmentation
  • Breast lift
  • Tummy tuck
  • Buttock augmentation
  • Vaginal rejuvenation

Non-surgical treatments in a mommy makeover

A mommy makeover does not have to be absolutely surgical. You may include non-surgical procedures in your mommy makeover plans, particularly if you want less dramatic results, cannot take time off to recover from surgery, or plan to have more children.

Some non-surgical procedures include the following:

  • Injectables: Botox and fillers
  • Skin tightening treatments
  • Non-surgical fat reduction
  • Non-surgical feminine rejuvenation
  • Cellulite reduction
  • Skin resurfacing treatments

Who is an ideal candidate for a mommy makeover?

To be an ideal candidate for a mommy makeover surgery, you are expected to:

  • Be healthy and free from infections
  • Have an ideal body weight
  • Have realistic goals
  • Be finished or done with childbearing

What does recovery from a mommy makeover look like?

Recovery and recovery time is peculiar to each patient. In other words, recovery varies from patient to patient and depends on the procedures a patient had. Common side effects are pain, swelling, bruising, scarring, and infection. Other side-effects, possible risks, and complications of a mommy makeover include bleeding, inability to breastfeed, fat necrosis, loss of nipple sensation, implant leak, contour deformity, deep thrombosis, fat embolization, cardiac and pulmonary complications, and anesthesia risks.

Recovery often restricts physical activities for as long as 4 to 6 weeks after surgery and this may require you to get extra help if you have young children or a baby. Depending on the procedures you had, you may begin to see final results from as early as 3 months after surgery. In some cases, it may take longer.

How long do results last?

Results are often revealed as each procedure heals. Results of procedures like liposuction and tummy tuck may be permanent while others such as breast augmentation may need subsequent treatments in later years.
