What is the difference between Rhinoplasty & Ethnic Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty and Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a medical term for a nose job. It is a cosmetic procedure performed to alter the size and shape of the nose. Ethnic rhinoplasty is a nasal surgery done for patients aimed at addressing cosmetic or functional issues while preserving their facial ethnic characteristics.

What is rhinoplasty and ethnic rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, nose reshaping, or nasal surgery is a surgical procedure performed to enhance the appearance of the nose, achieve balance and symmetry of facial features, or address breathing difficulties such as a deviated septum.

Ethnic rhinoplasty requires detailed attention to the external and internal features of a patient’s nose and facial characteristics so that getting the nose job doesn’t diminish any of these original features. Dr. Michael Jones is renowned for his instrumental role in developing rhinoplasty procedures that do not require implants. These implants increase the risk for complications which may alter the nose and the natural look of the patient. Hence, at Lexington Plastic Surgeons (LPS), we are equipped with the best hands to give you the result you desire.

Getting a nose job, particularly an ethnic rhinoplasty, provides you the following benefits:

  • Improves the size, shape, and symmetry of your nose
  • Preserves your natural look and heritage
  • Minimises nasal flaws
  • Corrects nasal deformities and improves breathing
  • Balances your facial features
  • Reduces risk of scarring
  • Gives you your desired aesthetic look
  • Boosts confidence and self-image

At LPS, we treat each patient as an individual. During a consultation, we consider your individual characteristics, listen to your concerns, and discuss your goals before recommending a treatment option. Typically, ethnic rhinoplasty may be recommended for patients aged 15 and above whose noses have reached full maturity.

What is recovery like after rhinoplasty and ethnic rhinoplasty?

Your recovery begins immediately after the surgery. Your nose will be dressed and covered in a bandage. Following your surgery, you may experience normal side effects like pain, bruising, swelling, nausea, and nasal congestion. Usually, your surgeon will prescribe some medications to control the side effects.

Your surgeon may advise you to avoid foods high in fat and spices for the first 24 hours after your procedure; as well as resting and avoiding intense physical activity.

Bruising and swelling may last for several weeks after your procedure. However, it should begin to subside after the first week. It may take up to six months to heal and see final results.
