What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Mar 2, 2022

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, about 21,823 Brazilian Butt Lifts were performed in 2020. Women are requesting Brazilian Butt Lifts to enhance the size and shape of their buttocks, and achieve their ideal bodies.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian Butt Lift is a cosmetic procedure where fat is transferred from a part(s) of the body to the buttocks to enhance the its shape and proportion. A Brazilian Butt Lift is a procedure that augments your buttocks without implants. Two procedures are involved in BBL- liposuction and augmentation.

First, liposuction is done to extract excess fat from the abdomen, lower back, hips, or thighs. Next, the extracted fat is prepared, purified, and injected into the buttocks to make them fuller and rounder.

Typically, Brazilian Butt Lifts are performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia, or intravenous sedation.

A Brazilian Butt Lift helps improve your body proportions by:

    • Reducing fat in problem areas like your hips, thighs, lower back, and abdomen.

    • Adding fat to your buttock, making them voluminous and perky.

    • Enhancing your curves.

Who is a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Although anyone can desire a fuller and rounder buttocks, you are better suited for a Brazilian Butt Lift if you:

    • Want a buttocks augmentation without implants

    • Have adequate fat stores in your hips, lower back, hips, or thighs for grafting

    • Are prepared to avoid sitting directly on your buttocks for several weeks

    • Have good skin tone in the hips and buttocks

    • Are at a healthy weight

    • Are a nonsmoker

    • Are free from infections and complications from previous surgeries.

What is recovery like after a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Recovery after a Brazilian Butt Lift requires special changes. A Brazilian Butt Lift takes up to 6 months to heal fully and see results.

While Brazilian Butt Lifts may have fewer side effects than similar surgeries, they include pain, scarring, infection, lumps in both donor and treated areas, loss of skin in treated areas, and fat embolism which can be fatal.

The pain is usually minimal, although your surgeon may prescribe (remove some) pain medication. You will not be permitted to sit or lie directly on your buttocks for two weeks after the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. Instead, you will need to lie or sleep on your stomach or side and stand for most of your activities.

You will be asked to use a donut seat or pillows under your thighs after you’ve healed enough. Normal sitting activity usually starts after 8 weeks, light activities within 1 week, and full resumption to work within 10 to 14 days.

How long do results last?

Results should last for several years, but if the transfer doesn’t take hold, you may need a repeat procedure after you’ve healed. Weight fluctuation can affect the outcome of your Brazilian Butt Lift, so it’s best to maintain a stable weight for the best, long-lasting results.
