EYELID SURGERY/BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blephoroplasty (Eye Lid)

Blepharoplasty or Eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin from the upper or lower eyelids. This is the procedure for anyone suffering from extra skin hanging above their eyelid or for patients who have heavy bag under their eyes. Patients who have done this procedure have reported looking more refreshed, younger and less tired.

THE METHOD(S)

Eyelid surgery usually takes from one to three hours, under local or general anesthesia. The doctor makes incisions in the creases of the upper eyelids and/or below the lashes of the lower eyelids. The placement of the incision line is designed to minimize visible scarring. Once the incision is made, the doctor separates the skin from the fatty tissue and muscle, removes the excess fat and trims the drooping skin/muscle. In instances where there is no drooping skin to be removed, the doctor may make an incision line just below the lower lash to remove the excess fat.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for eyelid surgery is a non-smoking adult, without pre-determined, serious eye conditions. Patients with healthy facial tissue and muscles are desired. The patient must also have realistic expectations for the outcome of this surgery.

RECOVERY/POST-OPERATIVE

  • It is important to know that there will be swelling and bruising around the area.
  • Stiches will be removed within a few days to a week.
  • Patients should take a week off from work.
